Adnan al-Rashidi is a contemporary scholar and researcher in comparative Islamic jurisprudence, known for his work documenting and analyzing the legal preferences of al-Qadi Abu Ya'la.
Academic Background and Scholarly Work
His full name is Adnan ibn Awad ibn Rashid al-Rashidi. He pursued his graduate education in Saudi Arabia at Qassim University, within the Department of Jurisprudence (Fiqh) at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies. He prepared his master's thesis in comparative jurisprudence during the academic year 1430–1431 AH (2009–2010 CE) under the academic supervision of Abdulaziz ibn Muhammad al-Hujaylan.
Al-Rashidi's scholarly research focuses on the Hanbali legal tradition, particularly the individual rulings and legal weightings (ikhtiyarat) of the prominent Hanbali jurist al-Qadi Abu Ya'la al-Farra' (d. 458 AH). In his study, Ikhtiyarat al-Qadi Abi Ya'la al-Hanbali al-Fiqhiyya min Awwal Kitab al-Tahara ila Akhir Bab al-Tayammum, he compiled and examined Abu Ya'la's determinations from the beginning of ritual purification through the chapter on dry ablution (tayammum). Arranging the topics according to the chapter order of Zad al-Mustaqni', he analyzed Abu Ya'la's positions alongside differing transmissions within the Hanbali school and across other legal schools. He also advocated for collating related academic studies into a unified multi-volume reference on Abu Ya'la's jurisprudence.
