Abu Dharr al-Qalamuni is a contemporary Egyptian preacher and author, widely recognized for his popular devotional manual Fafirru ila Allah (Flee to Allah) .
Lineage and Background
His full name is Abd al-Mun'im ibn Husayn ibn Hanafi ibn Hasan ibn al-Shahid . He took the nisba al-Qalamuni from the village of al-Qalamun in the Dakhla Oasis in Egypt, and later took up residence in Ezbet Khayza along the Barajil Road in Giza .
Scholarly Activity and Reception
Al-Qalamuni dedicated his efforts to Islamic preaching, moral exhortation, and guidance on worship and spiritual rectitude. His most prominent treatise, Fafirru ila Allah, was first issued in 1404 AH and subsequently published in multiple revised and expanded editions, addressing topics such as repentance, prayer, remembrance of God, and legal etiquettes . He also compiled Madha Taarif an Allah (What Do You Know About Allah?), published in 1430 AH / 2009 CE, which expounds Sunni theological tenets regarding the divine names and attributes . On Quranic pedagogy, he produced the instructional guide Awn al-Rahman fi Hifz al-Quran (The Help of the Most Merciful in Memorizing the Quran) .
A distinctive practice in his publications was his explicit waiver of printing rights, granting unconditional permission to anyone who wished to reprint and circulate his writings without prior authorization, provided they maintained piety and integrity in doing so . Within Egyptian scholarly circles, he was among the scholars consulted for assessment regarding controversial contemporary writings, including the manuscript of Umr Ummat al-Islam .
