Academic Career and Scholarship
Nawfal served as a professor at Al-Azhar University in Cairo and taught postgraduate studies at the Islamic University of Madinah.
His scholarly research includes Asalib al-Dawah ila Allah fi al-Quran al-Karim ("Methods of Calling to Allah in the Holy Qur'an"), a study published in installments in the academic journal of the Islamic University of Madinah. In this study, Nawfal examined the conventional classifications of Qur'anic rhetorical expressions—such as narrative, declarative, injunctive, and argumentative modes—and proposed a taxonomy structured around substantive religious themes, classifying da'wah styles into creedal, devotional, legislative, moral, and martial categories. He also analyzed Qur'anic forms of dialogue (muhawarah) and debate (muhajjajah), exploring how the Qur'an presents cosmic observations, rational proofs, and dialectical arguments to substantiate monotheism and the resurrection.
