Abu al-Maati al-Shabrawi (also referred to as al-Shabrawi ibn Abi al-Maati al-Misri al-Hasani) is a contemporary Egyptian scholar and editor based in al-Sinbillawayn in the Dakahlia Governorate, recognized for his instructional writings in Islamic jurisprudence and grammar .
Scholarly activities
As part of a foundational curriculum titled Maktabat al-Mubtadi' fi Talab al-'Ilm (The Beginner's Library for Seeking Knowledge), al-Shabrawi authored Ithaf al-Arib bi-Sharh al-Ghaya wa-l-Taqrib (Gift to the Intelligent: Commentary on the Ultimate Objective and Primer), an introductory commentary on Abu Shuja' al-Isfahani's Shafi'i legal text . His stated approach in the work was to provide the scriptural evidence for the rulings of the Shafi'i school while intentionally omitting complex intra-school disagreements and rejoinders to keep beginning students focused on core principles . In the same series, he also wrote Lata'if al-Minnah bi-Sharh Usul al-Sunnah (Subtle Graces: Commentary on the Foundations of the Sunnah), dedicated to the theological primer attributed to Ahmad ibn Hanbal .
In addition to composing original commentaries, al-Shabrawi has been active in editorial scholarship; he prepared an edition of Ibn Hisham al-Ansari's grammatical tract Nukat al-I'rab from a manuscript copy, supplying grammatical parsing (i'rab) for all of its textual citations to assist students in mastering linguistic rules .

Ithaf al-Arib bi Sharh al-Ghaya wa al-Taqrib is a contemporary commentary on Abu Shuja' al-Isfahani's foundational Shafi'i legal primer Matn Abi Shuja' (al-Ghaya wa al-Taqrib). Designed for beginning students of jurisprudence, the work aims to bridge texts centered on substantive rulings and those focused on textual proofs by providing the scriptural and legal evidence supporting the branches of Shafi'i law while deliberately avoiding complex intra-school disputes and legal polemics.
