Abdullah al-Ubaylan (full name Abu Abd al-Rahman Abdullah ibn Salih al-Ubaylan) is a contemporary Islamic scholar and researcher in jurisprudence and hadith . He is known for legal and hadith treatises, including al-Nukat al-Ilmiyya ala al-Rawda al-Nadiyya and Radd al-Jamil fi al-Dhabb an Irwa al-Ghalil .

Background and Scholarly Activities

He belongs to the al-Ubaylan family of Buraydah, a branch of the al-Jaser lineage descended from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ibrahim al-Jaser, who was nicknamed Ubaylan . In addition to his authored treatises, al-Ubaylan has engaged in educational teaching, delivering recorded scholarly commentaries on classical legal hadith compendia such as Umdat al-Ahkam and Bulugh al-Maram .

Scholarly Contributions and Reception

Al-Ubaylan's scholarship focuses on legal critique and hadith methodology. In hadith defense, he authored Radd al-Jamil fi al-Dhabb an Irwa al-Ghalil as a detailed rebuttal to Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Khalil's Mustadrak al-Talil, in which al-Ubaylan argued against what he described as excessive reliance on imitation (taqlid) in evaluating narrators and hidden defects, defending the hadith assessments of Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani and preserving narrations that form foundations of legal rulings . In theological critique, he wrote al-Qawl al-Jali fi Bayan Butlan al-Mashru al-Musamma al-Salam Alayka Ayyuha al-Nabi, which included an introductory commendation by the scholar Salih al-Fawzan .

His scholarship and guidance have been commended by researchers who studied under him or sought his review; al-Dani ibn Munir Al Zahwi acknowledged his review, preface, and encouragement for his compilation Silsilat al-Athar al-Sahiha, praising his knowledge of jurisprudence and his character .
