Abdullah al-Furayh (Dr. Abdullah ibn Hammud al-Furayh) is a contemporary Islamic scholar best known for his devotional and legal treatise al-Minah al-Aliyya fi Bayan al-Sunan al-Yawmiyya ("The Sublime Gifts in Explaining the Daily Sunnahs").
Scholarly Focus and Standing
In his legal writings, al-Furayh focuses on documenting and categorizing the daily non-obligatory practices and supplications transmitted from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In al-Minah al-Aliyya, he approaches the concept of Sunnah from the perspective of legal theorists (usuliyyun) and jurists (fuqaha), defining it as recommended practices commanded without obligation—rewarded upon performance and not penalized when omitted.
His work was reviewed and commended by Dr. Khalid ibn Ali al-Mushayqih, who praised it for its thorough compilation of evidence-based verbal and physical Sunnahs practiced throughout the day and night. The pedagogical material of the treatise has also served as a basis for educational training courses and competitions.
