Abd Allah ibn Salih al-Qusayr (1370–1445 AH / 1951–2024 CE) was a Saudi scholar, jurist, and preacher known for his work in Islamic propagation and educational treatises, including Tadhkirat al-Sawwam bi-Shay min Fadail al-Siyam wa al-Qiyam.

Early Life and Education

He was Abd Allah ibn Salih ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Qusayr, belonging to the al-'Amarat branch of the Anazah tribe. He was born on 25 Sha'ban 1370 AH in the village of al-Shiqqah al-'Ulya near Buraydah in the Al-Qassim Province, where he completed his primary education. He attended intermediate school at the Scientific Institute in Buraydah, where he studied under Ali al-Dhali', before moving to Riyadh to complete his secondary education at its Scientific Institute. During that time, he regularly frequented the lessons of Abd Allah ibn Humayd and Hammud al-Tuwayjiri.

Al-Qusayr went on to graduate from the College of Sharia at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh in 1396–1397 AH. He subsequently completed a master's degree in the university's Department of Quranic Exegesis (Tafsir), with his thesis supervised by Abd Allah ibn Ghudayyan. He studied jurisprudence under Salih al-Atram, reviewing parts of Zad al-Mustaqni with him, and was a close student of the Grand Mufti Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz, under whom he read Sharh al-Sunnah by Al-Baghawi.

Career and Preaching

Following his university graduation, al-Qusayr began his professional career as a preacher under the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, Da'wah and Guidance. In 1410 AH, he was appointed director of the Administration of Da'wah and Mosques in the Riyadh Region. He later served as an advisor for Islamic propagation at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da'wah and Guidance, remaining in that role until he dedicated himself entirely to preaching and teaching in 1428 AH. Alongside administrative responsibilities, he lectured part-time in Sharia subjects, Quran, and Islamic culture at King Fahd Security College between 1402 and 1404 AH and at King Abdulaziz Military Academy between 1402 and 1403 AH.

Scholarly Standing and Teaching

Al-Qusayr conducted regular public teaching circles in various mosques across Riyadh, including Jami' al-Amir Mit'ib in al-Malaz and Jami' al-Dhiyab in al-Nasim, where he taught foundational texts in creed, hadith, and jurisprudence. He gave particular emphasis to theological education, having taught and explained Kitab al-Tawhid more than fifty times over the course of his lifetime. Among his written works was Bayan Arkan al-Iman, which addressed the fundamentals of Islamic belief.

Ibn Baz praised his knowledge and delivery following a lecture on the movement of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, frequently entrusting him with official preaching missions. His students and contemporaries, including Aziz ibn Farhan al-Anazi and Salih al-Suhaymi, highlighted his deep knowledge of theological sects and historical movements as well as his adherence to evidence in legal verdicts.

Death

Following an illness that progressively worsened and resulted in a coma, al-Qusayr died on 3 Ramadan 1445 AH (March 2024 CE) at the age of approximately seventy-five. His funeral prayer took place in Riyadh, attended by Prince Muhammad ibn Abdulrahman ibn Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Riyadh Region, alongside scholars such as Abd al-Karim al-Khudayr, before his burial in the city.
