In al-Mihna wa Atharuha fi Manhaj al-Imam Ahmad al-Naqdi ("The Inquisition and Its Impact on Imam Ahmad's Critical Methodology"), al-Fawzan investigated the methodological consequences of the theological inquisition concerning the createdness of the Quran on Ahmad ibn Hanbal, demonstrating how the trial influenced his hadith transmission criteria and his assessments of contemporaries who conformed, held back, or stood firm . In another specialized hadith study, al-Ahadith al-Warida fi Qiraat Surat al-Kahf Yawm al-Jumua ("The Narrations Transmitted Regarding the Recitation of Surah al-Kahf on Friday"), published in 1431 AH, he evaluated the diverse transmission lines of the report attributed to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri through Abu Hashim al-Rummani, concluding that the technically sound transmission is halted (mawquf) upon Abu Sa'id without the specification of Friday .
