Abd Allah Damfu, fully Abd Allah ibn Muhammad Hasan Damfu, is a contemporary Saudi scholar of hadith who served in the Department of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at the College of Education in Medina, affiliated with King Abdulaziz University.
Academic Career and Research
Damfu's academic research centers on hadith criticism, transmission chains, and manuscript investigation. He completed a doctoral dissertation entitled Marwiyyat al-Imam al-Zuhri al-Mu'allah fi Kitab al-'Ilal li-l-Daraqutni ("The Defective Transmissions of al-Zuhri in al-Daraqutni's Kitab al-'Ilal"), which investigated hidden defects in narrations traced to al-Zuhri. He also produced a specialized monograph on the transmission history of Sahih Muslim, titled Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Sufyan: Riwayatuhu wa-Ziyadatuhu wa-Ta'liqatuhu 'ala Sahih Muslim.
In the area of text editing, he prepared a critical edition of Juz' fihi Ahadith Yahya ibn Ma'in from the transmission of Abu Mansur al-Shaybani. Beyond his own writings, Damfu maintained a private library of manuscript facsimiles—including early works such as the Musnad of al-Haytham ibn Kulayb al-Shashi and the Ma'rifat al-Sahabah of Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani—which assisted fellow scholars in their textual studies.
