Abd Allah al-Muaydi is a contemporary Saudi scholar and lecturer in Islamic commercial jurisprudence, best known for his academic treatise on Islamic financial contracts, Ahkam Uqud al-Tamwil fi al-Fiqh al-Islami (Rulings on Financing Contracts in Islamic Jurisprudence).
Academic Career and Scholarship
Al-Muaydi served as an academic instructor at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, where he repeatedly taught the subject of Islamic financing contracts (ʿuqud al-tamwil al-islami) in the College of Economics. Noting the absence of an accessible, unified textbook aligned with the university's academic plan, he authored Ahkam Uqud al-Tamwil fi al-Fiqh al-Islami to cover the syllabus designed by the Department of Jurisprudence in the university's College of Sharia.
In developing and teaching this material, al-Muaydi drew upon the scholarship and curricula of several specialized professors who had previously taught the course, notably Yusuf al-Shubayli, Abd Allah al-Tamimi, and Abd Allah al-Fadli. His scholarly work examines classical and contemporary financing instruments, foundational legal parameters of contracts, the functioning of Islamic banking, and specific contemporary transactions such as installments, murabaha, tawarruq, lease-to-own agreements, and bank cards.
