Abd al-Wadud Maqbul Hanif is a contemporary scholar and Quran reciter specializing in Quranic sciences, known for his work on the history of Quranic revelation and textual preservation .

Education and Quranic Studies

Hanif studied the recitation of the Quran under the Syrian scholar Sa'id Abdullah al-Abdullah, reading the complete text to him according to the transmission of Hafs from Asim via the Shatibiyyah pathway .

Scholarly Contributions

Hanif authored the specialized study Nuzul al-Quran al-Karim wa al-Inayah bihi fi Ahd al-Nabi (The Revelation of the Noble Quran and Its Care During the Era of the Prophet), which was presented at the symposium on Saudi Arabia's patronage of the Quran and its sciences organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Da'wah and Guidance through the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran in Medina .

The monograph is structured into an introduction, two main chapters, and a conclusion. The first chapter examines the stages of revelation—covering its descent in its entirety from the Preserved Tablet to the lowest heaven, the wisdom underlying its gradual, piecemeal transmission to the Prophet ﷺ, and the narrations concerning its revelation according to seven distinct modes ( أحرف ) . The second chapter addresses the methods of preservation, memorization, and recording practiced during the prophetic era .

In Dhul-Qi'dah 1426 AH, Hanif was among the scholars and prominent reciters who attended the funeral and burial of the former imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Ali Jaber .
