Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih al-Mahmud is a contemporary Saudi scholar of Islamic theology and professor at the College of Usul al-Din at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, known for his academic study Mawqif Ibn Taymiyya min al-Ashaira .
Education and Academic Career
Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih ibn Salih al-Mahmud pursued his higher education at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh . On 19 Jumada al-Ula 1409 AH, he obtained his doctorate with first-class honors from the Department of Creed and Contemporary Doctrines in the College of Usul al-Din . His doctoral thesis, titled Mawqif Ibn Taymiyyah min al-Ashʿariyyah ("The Stance of Ibn Taymiyyah towards the Ash'arites"), was supervised by Salim ibn Abd Allah al-Dakhil and evaluated by a committee comprising Nasir ibn Hamad al-Rashid and Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Ghunayman . He subsequently served as a professor in the Department of Creed and Contemporary Doctrines at the university .
Teaching and Scholarly Activity
In his academic and educational lessons, al-Mahmud taught several classical theological and jurisprudential texts, including Ibn Abi al-Izz's Sharh al-Aqidah al-Tahawiyyah, al-Aqidah al-Saffariniyyah, portions of Ibn al-Qayyim's Iʿlam al-Muwaqqiʿin, and selections from Ibn Muflih's al-Adab al-Sharʿiyyah . Among those who studied under him or benefited from his instruction are Muhammad Salih al-Munajjid and Dhiyab al-Ghamidi . His writings also include a treatise on divine decree and predestination, al-Qada wa-l-Qadar .
