Abd al-Rahman ibn Fadala (d. 420 AH / 1029 CE) was a hadith scholar and traditionist from Nishapur, known for his collection Fawa'id Abi Ali ibn Fadala.
Life and standing
His full name was Abu Ali Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Fadala al-Naysaburi. He engaged in the study and transmission of hadith, taking narrations from scholars such as Abu Ahmad al-Ghutrifi. Among those who transmitted from him was the Quran reciter Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Zayrak al-Muqri'.
Biographical evaluations recognize Ibn Fadala as a hadith master (hafiz) and an author of tradition (sahib hadith) with a relatively limited volume of narrations (muqill). In biographical compendia of narrators, critics such as al-Dhahabi and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani recorded criticisms regarding his creed, noting that he held Rafidi inclinations. His transmitted compilation Fawa'id Abi Ali ibn Fadala continued to circulate through chains of transmission via Ibn Zayrak, descending through figures such as his son Abu al-Qasim Nasr ibn Muhammad and later Abu Tahir al-Silafi.
