Abd al-Rahman bin Salih al-Abd al-Latif is a contemporary scholar of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and legal theory, known for his research on legal maxims embodying ease and facilitation in Islamic law .

Scholarly Work and Contributions

Al-Abd al-Latif's primary scholarly contribution lies in the systematization of jurisprudential maxims (qawāʿid) and subordinate rules (ḍawābiṭ) related to legal facilitation (taysīr) across Islamic jurisprudence . In developing his academic thesis, initially conceived under the working title Qawa'id wa-Dawabit al-Taysir fi al-Shari'a, he sought to isolate and consolidate the scattered rules that express the principle of alleviating hardship across various legal chapters, later titling the published work al-Qawa'id wa al-Dawabit al-Fiqhiyya al-Mutadammina lil-Taysir . The work was published by the Deanship of Academic Research at the Islamic University of Madinah in 1423 AH (2003 CE) .

In his analysis of legal maxims of facilitation, al-Abd al-Latif concluded that the underlying maxims of ease are largely agreed upon among Muslim jurists and directly derived from the texts of the Quran and the Sunnah, while scholarly disagreements typically center on the application of these universal principles to specific subsidiary rulings (furūʿ) .
