Abd al-Majid bin Salim al-Mushabi is a contemporary Islamic scholar and author known for his academic writings on Islamic creed (aqidah) and theological doctrines.
Biography and Scholarly Focus
His full name is Abd al-Majid bin Salim bin Abd Allah al-Mushabi. Holding a doctorate, his scholarly research focuses primarily on theological questions and creedal methodologies.
In his study al-Tanjim wa al-Munajjimun wa Hukm Dhalik fi al-Islam (Astrology, Astrologers, and the Ruling on It in Islam), he examined the craft of astrology and its theological status, arguing that astrology entails attributing events in the terrestrial realm to planetary influences and that believing celestial bodies bring good or bad fortune is among the primary paths leading to their worship besides God. In the same work, he analyzed the Quranic account of Prophet Ibrahim ( فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ رَأَى كَوْكَبًا / "So when the night covered him out of sight he saw a star" and فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ / "And he cast a look at the stars"), maintaining that Ibrahim was debating his people and employing rational arguments against celestial worship rather than practicing astrology or affirming astrological beliefs. In another notable study, Manhaj Ibn Taymiyyah fi Mas'alat al-Takfir (Ibn Taymiyyah's Method in the Issue of Excommunication), he investigated the theological principles and criteria governing excommunication according to Ibn Taymiyyah.
