Abd al-Hamid Duha is a contemporary Arabic poet, editor, and writer who is known for his poetry collection Malhamat Har (The Epic of a Free Man) and his critical edition of Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti's rhetorical poem 'Uqud al-Juman.

Literary Views and Scholarly Activities

Duha positions his literary work within the field of committed Islamic literature (al-adab al-islami), viewing it as an ideological engagement against Westernizing currents and defining Islamic literature—spanning poetry, novels, and short stories—as writing that observes Islamic rulings and etiquette while promoting virtue and opposing vice. In the introduction to his poetry collection Malhamat Har, which he dedicated to the world's free people and martyrs of freedom, he also addressed classical Arabic prosody ('arud), defending traditional metrical allowances recognized by al-Khalil ibn Ahmad against rigid modern restrictions.

In manuscript editing, Duha undertook the textual verification and vocalization of al-Suyuti's versified text on Arabic rhetoric, 'Uqud al-Juman fi 'Ilm al-Ma'ani wa-l-Bayan, after being requested to do so in early 2006. He prepared the edition using a manuscript obtained from the al-Azhar collection along with classical printed commentaries, completing the editing in 2006 before it was later published in 2012.
