Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah al-Buraydi is a contemporary historian and researcher, best known for his critical study al-Khilafa al-Umawiya min Kitab al-Akhbar al-Tiwal al-Mansub lil-Dinawari ("The Umayyad Caliphate from the Book al-Akhbar al-Tiwal Attributed to al-Dinawari") .
Academic Career and Research
Al-Buraydi pursued his graduate studies at Umm al-Qura University in Mecca, where he prepared a master's degree in history within the Department of History at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies . His research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Abd al-Aziz al-Sallumi and was defended on 13 Jumada al-Ukhra 1440 AH, receiving the grade of "Excellent" .
The resulting publication, al-Khilafa al-Umawiya min Kitab al-Akhbar al-Tiwal al-Mansub lil-Dinawari, focused on the historical narratives concerning the Umayyad era preserved in al-Akhbar al-Tiwal while critically assessing the text's traditional attribution to Abu Hanifa al-Dinawari (d. 282 AH) . Al-Buraydi argued against al-Dinawari's authorship based on internal evidence, emphasizing the lack of direct transmission formulas (such as haddathana or akhbarana) and the absence of internal textual markers that would definitively identify the author's identity or his exact period .
