Career and Scholarly Activity

Al-Rabian served as the director of the Intermediate Institute (Ma'had al-Dirasa al-Mutawassita) at the Islamic University of Madinah . In Safar 1397 AH (February 1977 CE), he participated in the International Conference for Guiding the Islamic Call and Preparing Callers held at the university, presenting a paper titled Dawr al-Jami'a fi I'dad al-Du'at ("The Role of the University in Preparing Callers") . He also contributed regularly to the Journal of the Islamic University of Madinah, authoring pieces such as a question-and-answer column and the article al-Bahth al-Amin fi Hadith al-Arba'in ("The Trustworthy Inquiry into the Hadith of the Forty") .

In his treatise Sahih al-Maqal fi Masalat Shadd al-Rihal ("The Sound Discourse on the Question of Journeying"), al-Rabian engaged in a critique of positions held by Atiyyah Muhammad Salim regarding the legal ruling on journeying (shadd al-rihal) to visit tombs and graves . Al-Rabian argued that undertaking journeys specifically to visit graves is impermissible and contrary to the stance of the early Muslim community, citing the prophetic narration لا تشد الرحال إلا إلى ثلاثة مساجد ("Journeys shall not be undertaken except to three mosques") and maintaining that the prohibition encompasses all travel intended specifically for visiting tombs .
