Abbas Mahjoub is an Islamic educator and scholar who served as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Da'wah at the Islamic University of Madinah, specializing in Islamic pedagogy and educational philosophy.
Academic Career and Thought
Mahjoub served as an academic faculty member at the Faculty of Da'wah at the Islamic University of Madinah, where he contributed studies on educational theory and curriculum development. His research focused on establishing the philosophical and religious fundamentals of Islamic education, contrasting theoretical pedagogical concepts with their practical application. In his treatises, he articulated that Islamic education relies directly on the Islamic worldview regarding the cosmos, humanity, and existence, striving for equilibrium between man's spiritual and material dimensions in fulfilling the responsibility of earthly stewardship.
In al-Tarbiyah fi Usur ma Qabl al-Islam wa-Badahu (Education in Pre-Islamic Eras and Thereafter), Mahjoub examined the historical trajectory of learning, observing how early societies relied on imitation and social participation, and comparing these models with the divine educational mandate described in the Quran through the creation of Adam. In al-Tarbiyah al-Islamiyyah wa-Marahil al-Numu (Islamic Education and Stages of Growth), he delineated human upbringing across distinct developmental phases, classifying them into prenatal development, childhood, adolescence, and youth. His analytical approach to religious pedagogical thought was also cited by contemporary scholars through his work Usul al-Fikr al-Tarbawi fi al-Islam (Foundations of Educational Thought in Islam).
